Session Description:
In this session we will review the current trends in the incidence and impact of diabetes. Strategies for earlier detection and diagnosis of diabetes will be discussed and the changes in treatment strategies, including approaches designed to prolong health of beta cells will be highlighted. We will discuss some of the more recent controversies regarding targets for glucose control and effects on cardiovascular events. We will also provide information on the critical importance of comprehensive management of the multiple co-morbidities in type 2 diabetes in order to reduce complications and improve outcomes. Session Objectives:
At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to: - Identify stressors as a precursor to CVD
- Relate rest as the opposite of stress
- Know the components of Consciously Resting Meditation (CRM)
- Associate deep rest through CRM with stress release
