Session Description:
Chapter 5 of Georgia law, which addresses protection of disabled adults and elder persons, includes a statute on who is required to report abuse. Simply stated, 'if mandated reporters observe that there are indications of abuse and there is reasonable cause to suspect abuse of a senior or disabled adult a report should be made to Adult Protective Services.' The indicators of abuse may be obvious. In many instances the indicators are subtle, not so obvious. The intent of this program will be to develop skills for identifying the indicators that are not obvious as we sharpen our skills for identifying the obvious indicators of abuse.
Session Objectives:
Participants will learn how to:
- Provide data on the societal impact of elder abuse
- Identify the types of elder abuse
- Recognize the indicators that abuse may be occurring
- Provide instructions to others on how to make a report –who, what, when, where
- Provide data on prevention of and intervention strategies for elder abuse
