Session Description:
Medical College of Georgia School of Medicine faculty will discuss the importance of community-based education for health sciences students and the realities of hosting students in a busy practice
Session Objectives:
By the end of the presentation, community health providers will:
- Understand several of the issues responsible for the physician shortage in Georgia
- Know important aspects of the medical student curriculum at the Medical College of Georgia
- Appreciate the role of the Georgia AHECs in facilitating health sciences education through community experiences
- Understand the factors that need to be considered in deciding if their practice is ready for a medical student, PA student, or nurse practitioner student
- Understand the competencies necessary for precepting medical students, nurse practitioner students and PA students
