Dr. David Hess shares statistical information regarding the US stroke belt and the stroke subtypes (hemorrhagic & ischemic). He discusses the four effective treatments in acute stroke. Dr. Hess provides information regarding the geographic penalty in stroke care and how telemedicine may offer a decrease in the penalty in smaller rural hospitals. He emphasizes that in acute ischemic stroke “time is brain” for increased chance in survival and decreases in neurologic impairment.
