This program is designed to provide participants with information on the field of Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Mr. Penrose will present a session that will highlight various components of the career of Sonography with regard to high school preparation, college admission requirements, requirements for licensure, trends, work environments, specialties, and career opportunities.

Parkinson's Disease is typically diagnosed in largely healthy patients, and the diagnosis itself may initially have a greater impact than the disease. Participants in this seminar lead by Dr. Lawrence Elmer will hear about options on how to deliver a diagnosis of Parkinson’s and address initial patient concerns.

Although there is now general agreement that average-risk adults aged 50 and older should be screened for colorectal cancer, national survey data show less than half of eligible adults have ever been screened for this disease. Primary care practice is an important point of entry for colorectal cancer screening. This program will enhance the primary care provider’s understanding of appropriate screening referral indicators and strategies, screening delivery, and outcomes management.

Jim Hotz MD and Tary Brown, both of Albany Area Primary Health Care, Inc., will discuss the whys and hows of becoming a teaching health site. They will show how the Board of Directors, executive staff, and clinical staff of a FQHC all work together to develop a successful teaching site.
