The recently issued Institute of Medicine Report and the political environment of health reform, are changing the context of nurse practitioner practice. Our speakers will provide an overview of these changes and the potential impact on nurse practitioner roles for organizations that may recruit, retain, and otherwise utilize nurse practitioners on their staffs.

When a patient is diagnosed with cancer he or she can become overwhelmed. Undergoing various treatments and dealing with healthcare professionals from different specialties like radiologists, pharmacists, and oncologists can be a lot to handle. Because of this, a new specialty has developed—the Patient Navigator. A patient navigator will offer medical guidance, act as a support group, and walk patients and their families through the cancer treatment process. This program will discuss the importance of patient navigation in the cancer continuum.

Providing clinical training for health professions students in a community based setting can be a win-win situation. Students' benefit from the experience, the preceptors benefit from new ideas and techniques currently being taught in the academic health sciences institutions and the practice site benefits from the opportunity to recruit future healthcare providers. This program is designed to enhance the knowledge of FQHC's, Rural Health Clinics, Multi-Specialty Practices and other Health Clinics on the benefits to becoming a teaching health site.

This presentation will give a general overview of the various professions in health care. The first part will discuss the benefits of choosing a career in health care. Next, the fastest growing jobs in health care according to the Georgia Department of Labor will be revealed along with some unique health career opportunities. Last, resources to find out more about health careers on the web and through the Georgia AHECs will be provided.

Ms. Rochelle Lee is the Nuclear Medicine Technology Program Coordinator at Armstrong Atlantic State University and will share valuable information about what it takes to enter into a career in Nuclear Medicine.

Katrina Wilburn-Beckhom, a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, will present educational content regarding an overview of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Ms. Wilburn-Beckhom will provide information about the three term contingency, reinforcements and basic strategies of ABA.

Teresa Heard, BSN, RN will present educational content regarding the Champions for Children Program that is dedicated to provide financial and resource assistance to the community families who have children diagnosed with a disability and/or special need. Ms. Heard will provide general information about Easter Seals affiliates and their services.
