Session Description:
Asthma affects 30 million people in America. According to the Georgia Asthma Surveillance Report of 2007, 10% of Children age 0-10, 15% of middle school children, and 16% of high school students, have asthma in the state of Georgia. This impacts their quality of life, ability to perform in school, and future health.
Dr. Gordana Lovrekovic, who has 14 years experience practicing pediatric pulmonology, will review the newest guidelines for asthma therapy for infants and school age populations. Dr. Lovrekovic has published and presented extensively on pediatric pulmonary topics. She has served on the faculty of the Department of Pediatrics, Medical College of Georgia and is currently a member of the Department of Pediatrics at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, GA. She practices at Southeast Lung and Critical Care Specialists, PC.
Session Objectives:
At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Discuss the role of inflammation in the pathophysiology of pediatric asthma.
- Review and practice the new asthma therapy guidelines as related to pediatrics.
- Discuss clinical methods to assess asthma severity.
- Review and practice therapeutic options for asthma stepped care.
