Session Description:
Dr. Rodney Lyn is an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Public Health at Georgia State University. He teaches courses in the Health Policy and Administration track of the Master of Public Health (MPH) program. Dr. Lyn’s research is focused on childhood obesity prevention, school and community health, and reduction of health disparities. He has special interest in the role of public policy in shaping environments, influencing behaviors and public health. Dr. Lyn directs the Policy Leadership for Active Youth (PLAY) initiative, a collaborative effort between the state’s research universities and statewide partners to address childhood obesity by connecting an emerging evidence-base to practice and policy.
Session Objectives:
- Discuss recent childhood obesity data in the US and in Georgia
- Define health implications associated with childhood obesity
- Use and practice evidence-based recommendations for youth dietary intake and physical activity
- Examine opportunities for childhood obesity policy development in Georgia
