Session Description:
MRC 101 is the required "Orientation" for the Southwest Georgia Regional Medical Reserve Corps. The program describes the origin and development of the MRC concept and the link between the MRC and Public Health. It outlines the "Essential Functions" of Public Health and the "Core Competencies" of the MRC. It gives a general orientation to both natural and man-made disasters and the roles of Public Health and the MRC in responding to these disasters. A description of the training requirements and opportunities for non-required training is also given.
Session Objectives:
Session participants will be able to:
- Describe the origins, missions, and function of both MRCs in general and the Southwest Georgia Regional MRC specifically.
- Describe, in general, significant natural and man-made events in which MRC volunteers may have an opportunity to participate as part of a Public Health response.
- Describe the roles of MRC volunteers in both emergency and non-emergency events and the training requirements needed to be an active volunteer.
- Describe the eight Core Competencies that will be obtained through MRC training opportunities.

Participants registering for programs should have access to the following technology for best viewing and participation:
