Session Description: When a patient is diagnosed with cancer he or she can become overwhelmed. Undergoing various treatments and dealing with healthcare professionals from different specialties like radiologists, pharmacists, and oncologists can be a lot to handle. Because of this, a new specialty has developed—the Patient Navigator. A patient navigator will offer medical guidance, act as a support group, and walk patients and their families through the cancer treatment process. This program will discuss the importance of patient navigation in the cancer continuum.
Session Objectives:
- Define Patient Navigation
- Explain the benefits of a coordinated navigation program for patients with cancer
- Describe the levels of cancer care and the role of the patient navigator at each step
Technology Requirements:
Participants registering for programs should have access to the following technology for best viewing and participation:
- Personal computer with Macintosh or Windows with 512 MB of RAM
- Broadband internet connection such as an office LAN, DSL, or cable modem
- Phone next to personal computer (or speaker phone if multiple people are viewing)
- Computer speakers (built-in or attached)
- Latest version of Adobe Flash which can be downloaded for free at http://www.adobe.com/
