SOWEGA-AHEC, in partnership with Tift Regional Medical Center and the UGA College of Pharmacy, has developed CE/CME/ACPE opportunities for healthcare professionals. CURE Activities are presented by experienced practitioners who share cutting edge educational content.
Those interested in watching without receiving CE/CME/ACPE, the programs are FREE. Attendees requesting CE/CME/ACPE, must complete an evaluation and pay a nominal fee.

Session Description:
Dr. Monica Parker shares insights regarding the relationship of cardiovascular disease and the incidence of cognitive impairment associated with frank stroke, vascular brain injury, or subclinical brain disease affecting at least one cognitive domain. She discusses modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors. During the presentation, she describes treatment options including pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies. Dr. Parker includes evidence-based strategies for dementia prevention and treatment.
Session Objectives:
On completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:
- Detail terminology for newly identified cognitive disorders.
- Discuss the role of APOE4 and dementia onset in setting of cardiovascular disease.
- Detail the role of radio imaging in dementia diagnosis.
- Recommend evidence-based strategies/studies for dementia prevention and treatment.

About Monica Parker, MD
Dr. Parker is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology for the Emory University School of Medicine at the Emory Clinic at Wesley Woods.
Dr. Parker graduated from the University of Nebraska, School of Medicine and completed her residency in Family Medicine from the University of Mississippi at Jackson. She is board certified in family medicine. She is a member of the Georgia Academy of Family Practice, the Gerontologic Society of America, and the Geriatrics Society of Georgia.
