Program Description
This event is meant to provide a closer look at medical coding, particularly the education and career path students should take to become a medical coder and to excel in the profession. With the increasing need for skilled medical coders in Georgia due to the new CMS ICD-10 code sets and changes in health care services reimbursement, our organization wants to expose young people to the benefits of this career and how to prepare themselves for it. The Health Careers in Georgia manual provides the basics; however, this speaker will provide an updated and in-depth perspective on this increasingly complex role.
Learning Objectives

- List typical tasks and responsibilities of a medical coder
- Identify the education and career path students should take to excel in the profession
- Explain the benefits, challenges, and complexities of the profession
