Program Description
Eric Watkins will share the experiences of a regional health system's implementation of the Quest for Excellence initiative. The goal of Quest is to provide tools for employees to improve the processes they perform in their daily jobs to create exceptional patient care experiences. Using principles from Lean and Six Sigma, Quest seeks to remove waste in health care (redundant work, waiting time, etc.), improve the patient care experience, and make staff and physician jobs easier by making processes more consistent and simple.

At the end of the presentation, attendees should be able to:
- Define a lean operating system and how it works in healthcare
- Describe the learning model
- Provide examples of how lean methods impact the patient care experience
- Highlight benefits and challenges of implementing an organization-wide quality improvement initiative
